Southern Utah

September 2012

In September of 2012 Dave Delie and I set up a last minute motorcycle trip to Southern Utah.

We drove the first day to Kanab Utah. We took a route through Globe, Payson, up Lake Mary Road to Flagstaff. Then we went up 89 to Alt 89, stopping at Lee's Ferry.  Then going through Jacob Lake we arrived in Kanab.  We got a motel there for two nights.

The next day we took a loop through Zion National Park and up to Cedar City for breakfast. Zion National Park is a wondrous place. It is so full of tourists that is not great for motorcycling but a slow ride through it is worth the trip just to see the scenery. It was not that crowded early on a September morning.

Then highway 14 out of Cedar City up to Cedar Breaks. Cedar Breaks is sort of out of the way but it is worth the visit. The roads around there are great for motorcycles with lots of curves, little traffic and no cops.

Next we went north to Panguitch and then south and east on highway 12, one of our favorite roads which goes to Escalante. North of Escalante the earth opens up on both sides of the road for the Grand Staircase Escalante National Monument. We need to come back here with the GSs and do some off road riding.

The day was getting late so instead of going on to Torrey we returned to Kanab.

Coming home we returned through Jacob Lake and down US 89 but we turned to go to Tuba City. Then across the Navaho and Hopi reservation to highway 77. That took us through Holbrook to Show Low and home.

It was a great ride. We went about 1400 miles in 3 days. It is the kind of ride that Dave and I enjoy.
