2014 BMW MOA National Rally

July 2014

The 2014 BMW National Rally was held at the State Fair Grounds in St Paul MN.

Since moving to Arkansas in February I have been looking forward to the July rally dates. St Paul is only 678 miles from Fayetteville. I took the freeway and was bored after 20 miles of corn on the left and corn on the right. Flat, straight, and God why do people live here?

I rolled into town on Wednesday night. Registration was jammed on Thursday morning and following the obligatory signatures on release documents, the gates opened bingo, I was in. The Fair Grounds were perfect for this event. Two square miles of camping, parking, outdoor vendors, venues for music (2), indoor vendor booths, and over a dozen locations for seminars from touring the Adriatic to the ABC’s of turning.

BMW came with a trailer full of shiny new rides to test drive and drool over. Likewise the BMW performance riding academy team was present. They built a mini GS course in the center of the fairgrounds and 6 times a day they ran those waterhead GSs through their paces.

While I did not bump into any S.E.A.T. riders in Minnesota, some of my pals from Rim Riders in Phoenix were there.  5,869 showed up in total. While I did not win a European tour, or the R nine T, some very nice riding lights did grace my top box for the trip home. Next year!
I am including some photos of the fairgrounds.

1. The State Fair Logo
2. Bikes, bikes, and more bikes
3. Tents and more
4. An interesting display at the best restaurant in the fairgrounds
5. Voni Glaves bike, and 1,000,000 mile medallion (the RS had 381,000 miles on it)
6. The world record holder Iron Butt license plate frame
7. Some great restorations

The Billings crew was there in full force for 2015 (By the way, the chamber of commerce had a great presentation and in big letter was the fact that half the motel rooms are already gone!) This will be a great rally with all of the natural attractions surrounding that part of the world. Make your reservations.

Yours truly
